In Praise of Heather Sather

Heather, you have been one of the most influential people in my life.  I remember when we were little you would teach me the things you learned in class that day - you really gave me a jump start on kindergarten and first grade.  I have so few memories of us ever fighting growing up - I know there were a few epic battles over the TV remote, but mostly I remember us being great comrades.  You would stand up for me against bullies, let me play with you and your friends, etc.  And it was nice sharing the basement with you at 3222; we had some great conversations in the evenings before going to bed.  You helped me work through my Whitney anxieties, you laughed at my freshman Twirp experience with the random West High chica, and together we complained about the dramas involving our friends.

I remember being so bummed when you went off to college, and also noticing how much it changed the dynamic of our family having you away.  You have such a knack for creating a lighthearted, fun atmosphere.  As I've gotten older I've come to admire it more and more.  It's beyond being simply a good mediator or peacemaker (though as a great listener and communicator you are both of these) because you create joy in the room, and now your daughter is doing the same, which makes for an undeniable tagteam.  I'm not sure how you've come to have this gift, or come to hone the skill so well, but I have never met anyone who has it quite like you do.

And now you're a mom, and Evey is the greatest!  You're doing such an excellent job juggling the various things you have going on in your life.  You make it look effortless and easy, but I know that it must be exhausting.  Still, from my far-too-limited firsthand experience, you always keep your priorities straight, and it's obvious how much you and Evey love being around each other.  She's been and is going to be so much fun to watch grow up.  I'm sure there'll be some good mother-daughter tiffs, but I know she'll aspire to be so much like you because of how great you are!

I'm so proud of you for deciding to try the 1/2 marathon and do something you never thought you would do.  You're already running longer distances than you ever had, so nice work.  I know you'll keep doing great throughout all your training because you do great at everything you do.  Thanks for being such a great sister, role model, and friend.  I love you, sis.  Be healthy a long time!

With all of my siblings I feel as if the english language is limiting in describing their awesomeness. Heather is the best friend a girl could hope for and I feel as if I am the luckiest in that I am also her sister. Thea and I often talk about trying to be like someone and the person that always comes up is Heather because she can make anyone feel safe, warm, and as if they are the most important person in the world. She also has the ability to talk to anyone and make them feel confident in what they are saying. Heather's confidence is something I have always admired, envied, and tried to emulate. Her smile lights up a room and she quietly commands attention in a room, not by doing anything, but by her magnetic qualities. I remember how nice she was to me when I was little and would follow her around and then my memories of 3811 # 7 are some of my best. It was so fun and special to spend your pregnancy with you and now to watch you as a mother is even more special. I am obsessed with your daughter and she is only so great because of who she comes from (and because she just is, actually). I love you Heath.

I have finally just joined this blog....

Obviously, Heather is the best person I have ever met in my life. You all are right--the way she lights up a room is second to none. Lucky for Evey, the way she loves her child and family is even greater.

It would be hard for me to sum up in words what Heather has meant to my life, so I won't even try. But with that said, I enjoy hearing about her presence in your lives.

I often wonder how a person could be so much to so many people. In light of the anniversary of Mike's death being just a few days past, I think it is fair to see that Heather and her dad were truly two of a kind. And more, that all of us are lucky to be associated with Heather. She is one in a million.

Heather truly is a living example of good mental, physical and spiritual health. She carries herself with confidence and poise, probably due to years of dance, which I will take credit for since I wrote the checks. :) Heather has always been a healthy eater; she would choose fruit and good food over junk food if given a choice even as a teenager. She is a great example to Evey and the rest of us as she now increases her physical exercise in training for the half-marathon. But mainly, the way that Heather lights up the room with her smile and happy spirit is what I appreciate most. And she has passed that on to Evey, lucky for the rest of us. Thanks, Heather, for your love and positive attitude about life. And thank you for choosing to live in Billings! I love you.

Heather you are absolutely amazing.

You are a wonderful person that is so balanced and healthy in everything that you do as daughter, sister, mother, friend, professional, athlete, and the list could go on.

Like what others have already shared, you are always so poised and confident in how you carry yourself.

I hope that you remain confident in your physical ability in the upcoming months as you prepare for the 1/2 marathon. You are amazingly strong and this should be cake compared to giving birth to Evey.

Love you!
